Ownership Team

Walter Aikens

President & CEO

Walter is the President and Treasurer of the Aikens Group. Since 1973, he has expanded the family-owned business to a multi-divisional corporation which covers commercial and residential developments, shopping complexes, professional office buildings, and hotels.

As a result of meeting his personal goals, he has become recognized in the community for his business knowledge and sits on many local boards. Walter is on the Board of the United Bank in Winchester, and he is a Trustee for Shenandoah University.

William Aikens

Vice President

Since 2000 William has been instrumental in the growth of the Construction Company. Today, much of his responsibilities lie with finding new land deals and managing engineers and architects with new business ventures that the group wishes to procure. Daily, he is involved with all aspects of the Construction Company with his managers, and helps to ensure that daily operations and customer expectations are met.

With the help of his team, he is responsible for procuring new jobs for the construction, excavation, and the drilling and blasting department. As a General Contractor who lives and breathes the construction process, he also prides himself on ensuring the customer’s expectations are upheld.

William works closely with his team of project managers, estimators, and site excavation divisions, to ensure the minute details are never overlooked. William is active in the community by participating with United Banks Advisory Committee, Rotary International, and is past president of the Top of Virginia Home Builders Association.

Project Management Team

Johnna Hutton

Project Manager & Crane Dispatch
Johnna began her construction career in 2007 working with Pine Knoll Construction. During her tenure with Pine Knoll, Johnna helped with a vast amount of Construction Administration duties from billing, record keeping, MSHA training and recertification’s, job costing, and estimating.

In 2013, Johnna joined H&W Construction and was brought on the team to help with Crane Sales and Estimating. During her time with H&W, Johnna has helped increase sales revenue each year and has been slowly taking on more and more of a role with our Estimating Department. Since joining H&W, Johnna has continued to grow in her project management knowledge and is an integral part of our project administration. Johnna is well versed in her construction skills and has helped with submittal processes, correspondence, and works well with other peers.

Jack Windle

Project Manager
Joining the team in 2022, Jack has been managing new construction builds, remodels, and tenant fit outs for many of the Aikens Group commercial properties. He also manages the complete painting operations for the company, which keeps over 500 apartments looking fresh prior to their rental to a new tenant.

Jack brings knowledge of the construction trade from working in past positions with Fuog Interbuild and Jenkins Restoration. Jack’s tenacity allows him to tackle new challenges each day and is a joy to work with. He is not afraid to take on new challenges and has an open mind while resolving problems.

Claude Finneyfrock

Drilling and Blasting Coordinator
Claude's journey with H&W began in June 2019, where he quickly demonstrated his expertise and dedication to the craft. Prior to joining our company, Claude worked at Blue Ridge Rock Services from 2013 to 2019, holding the position of Blasting Superintendent. During this time, he played a vital role in overseeing blasting operations and ensuring their safe and efficient execution.

Even before his tenure at Blue Ridge Rock Services, Claude honed his skills in the blasting industry. From 2007 to 2013, he worked as a blaster and estimator, gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the field. With an impressive 42 cumulative years of drilling and blasting experience, Claude brings a wealth of expertise to his role. What sets Claude apart is his passion for learning new things, even after being in the field for so long.

Luke Boles

Project Manager & Estimator
Luke is a native of Loudoun County, VA and a graduate of St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, FL. He has over 20 years’ experience in site development, with over ten years in construction management. Past projects of his include large scale civil construction (with a focus on heavy highway and bridge construction), as well as commercial and residential site development. Luke joined H&W Construction in September of 2021. Since his time here, he has completed an expansion to the Tristate Nissan lot, construction of the lacrosse field and field house at Shenandoah University, and is currently working on finishing other projects for us in the area.

Luke has an extensive sitework background and is always keeping his customers’ needs in mind.

Jason Miller

Crane Operations Manager
Jason Miller, our Operations Manager, brings over three decades of invaluable experience in the crane industry to the Shenandoah Valley. Jason has established himself as an expert in the field, with 30 years of experience working with W.O. Grubb prior to joining H&W.

As a resident of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Jason is deeply rooted in the community and embraces the spirit of local living. Alongside his professional accomplishments, he enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending quality time with his family. Proud of his two grown sons, Elijah and Jacob, Jason epitomizes the values of commitment, family, and a well-rounded lifestyle.

Jason's vast knowledge, strong work ethic, and dedication to his job make him an invaluable asset to our team, ensuring the success of the crane department and the satisfaction of our clients.

David Stevick

Project Manager
David Stevick joined the team in the summer of 2023, and has an extensive background of experience working in jobs related to transportation, construction, and management. He has spent valuable time serving as an Estimating & Contract Manager for civil construction groups, a crane and rigging Outside Sales & Accounts Executive, a Transportation Supervisor, and an Apartment Rental Agent.

A native of Stephens City, David lives with his wife Kerri and his three children. He enjoys partaking in any activity outdoors and works diligently to provide for his family. David has made himself a valuable member of our team by being an open book, ready to lend a hand to anyone at any time.

Mike Adamy

Operations Manager and Senior Estimator
Mike joined H&W Construction in 2015 and brings over 30 years of management experience to the team. Since graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in Human Resource Management, he has held various management positions in the transportation, manufacturing, and construction industry. Mike has established strong community ties to the local area, and he has worked extensively with local governments, engineers, architects, and financial institutions to design and develop various construction projects in the Shenandoah Valley.

Prior to joining H&W, Mike has been a licensed Class-A General Contractor in the State of Virginia since 1996. He has a strong working knowledge of all phases of commercial, residential, and agricultural construction.

From the local building associations, Mike was honored to receive various awards for his design and development projects in our community. His ability to provide direction is an asset to our company’s future growth.

John Barker

Senior Project Manager
John joined H&W Construction in January of 2020, with 40 years' experience in the construction industry. A native of upstate New York, and a graduate of SUNY Canton with an A.A.S. degree in Construction Management, John started his career in 1980 when relocating to Winchester. Beginning in heavy industrial and commercial construction, he worked in the estimating, sales, and project management fields for projects in the paper, chemical, and manufacturing industries. He has maintained a presence in this field, most recently as a project manager for a local structural steel fabricator and supplier.

In the early 2000's his career moved to include residential construction, in various capacities from estimating and purchasing to present, with two local home builder organizations. His experience includes single-family and multi- family homes, townhomes, age-restricted communities, historic preservation, and mixed-use complexes. John has worked with local city and county government organizations to plan and develop multiple projects in the local area. John has developed a strong customer service background over the years, this coupled with his varied experience makes him a valuable asset to H&W Construction and its customers.

John is a current board member of Preservation of Historic Winchester (PHW), having served as Vice President and President, and currently as Past President. PHW Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and architecture of Winchester, VA, through education and advocacy.

Scott Heishman

Excavation Superintendent
Scott became a part of the H&W team in 2012, bringing eighteen years of experience in site development and heavy equipment operation. He first gained exposure to the excavation industry in his time working at Buckley-Lages Inc. in Winchester, Virginia. From 1994 to 1998, he was first a laborer, and then later a heavy equipment operator with Buckley-Lages. Following his time there, Scott was employed at Ricketts Construction from 1998 to 2008 and D.L. George & Sons from 2009 to 2012. At both establishments, he performed duties as an equipment operator.

Scott now oversees all excavation and site development work at H&W as an equipment operator and Excavation Superintendent. Scott has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to our team, based on his long history and experience with site and utility work, along with his willingness to work well with others.

Scott lives in Baker, West Virginia, with his wife Michelle and four daughters. He enjoys supporting his daughters by going to watch their sports games.

Faith Carter

Controller/Accounting & Financial Analyst
Faith Carter joined H&W Construction in 2022. Faith is an accounting professional with nearly twenty years of experience spanning private industry, not-for-profit organizations, and the federal government.

Faith acts as a crucial asset to the management team by preparing and providing financial data, analysis, and solutions to challenging problems. Faith offers guidance, advice, and supervision over the operation and maintenance of financial accounts.

Faith holds a B.S. in Business Administration (with a focus in Finance & Economics), along with a Master of Accountancy. She is also a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia. Faith lives in Winchester with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family and being active.

Miles Park

Safety Director & Electrical PM
Miles joined H&W Construction in November of 2022, with 24 years' experience in the construction industry. A native of Baker, WV, and a former student at Potomac State University, Miles started his career in 1999, beginning in electrical contracting. He has maintained a presence in this field, most recently as a project manager for a local electrical contractor.

Miles has worked with local city and county government organizations to complete multiple projects in the local area. Miles has developed a strong customer service background over the years; this coupled with his varied experience makes him a valuable asset to H&W Construction and its customers.

Miles is currently OSHA 30 certified, CPR-First Aid, and developing a strong safety culture and program at H&W Construction.

Penny Kirk

Office Manager/Accounts Payable
Penny Kirk is the backbone of all financial operations within the H&W corporate office. Penny has been with H&W since 2013, and began working on the residential side of the accounting department. She has since branched her expertise to become the main overseer of all financial accounts across the board at H&W. Penny is extremely adept in computer and software skills, and is more than willing to lend a hand to all of her colleagues.

Previously, Penny has worked in several areas of construction. She has been employed at a traffic signalization company, general excavation contractor, and environmental group. Her positions at those jobs have ranged from Office Manager to Project Manager. In addition, Penny graduated with a BS from Sheperd University in West Virginia.

Penny was born and raised in Winchester, and continues to live there with her husband and two daughters. She has a passion for fitness has been teaching group fitness classes locally since 1996. When not in the office, Penny enjoys hiking and being outdoors.

Ingrid Horta

Payroll Specialist
Ingrid joined the H&W family in November of 2023, with years of administrative experience at previous workplaces. Before coming to H&W, Ingrid worked as a Human Services Assistant and Administrative Programs Assistant for the Winchester Department of Social Services and an Accounts Payable Specialist for Capital Business Development.

Ingrid graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, and demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills every day in the office with every person she engages with. As a payroll specialist, Ingrid has great strengths in areas such as attention to detail, employee support, and confidentiality.

Gary Legge

Construction Surveyor
Gary joined H & W Construction in July 2012. He came on board as an estimator and construction surveyor, bringing with him 46 years of surveying experience from his own surveying company, Marsh & Legge Land Surveyors, PLC. During his tenure with H&W, he transitioned to Crane Sales as a crane dispatcher while still maintaining his role as a construction surveyor.

Gary then retired in December of 2017-- however, his retirement was short-lived; as he was asked to rejoin the H&W team based on his experience and expertise. Gary now continues to work on a part-time basis with H&W and enjoys his position as Construction Surveyor.

His extensive surveying career included working in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and the country of Suriname in South America.
